How to Get Life Insurance in Orlando, Florida

LIFE INSURANCE3 min read

Quick summary

  • The products available in Orlando are the same ones available anywhere: term life, final expense, Indexed Universal Life and fixed indexed annuities.
  • A broker is not tied to one company, so one application can be compared across several carriers.
  • Premiums are priced on age, health and the amount of cover, not on where you live in the city.
  • Synergy Insurance Group is licensed in all 50 states, so an Orlando address is not a requirement.

Getting life insurance is a short process: decide which type of policy fits, work with someone who can compare carriers, and complete an application. This page is an orientation to the first two.

Synergy Insurance Group is a licensed insurance agency at 5728 Major Blvd, Suite 702, Orlando FL 32819, licensed in all 50 states, and never locked into one carrier. Call 407-434-0400. Office hours are Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.

Which products are available

Term life — cover for a set period, typically 10, 20 or 30 years, at a level premium. If you outlive the term, the policy ends and nothing is paid. Suited to a defined obligation such as a mortgage or the years a household depends on one income.

Final expense — a small whole life policy, typically $5,000 to $25,000, written to meet the costs that arise immediately after a death. No medical exam is required for most applicants between ages 50 and 85.

Indexed Universal Life — permanent cover with a cash value whose interest is credited according to the movement of a market index. If the index falls, the crediting rate does not go negative and the index loss is not credited against the value you have already built. The policy has its own internal charges, and those do not stop in a period when crediting does.

Fixed indexed annuities — a contract that accumulates on the same crediting mechanic and can later be converted into a stream of payments. Surrender charges apply if you withdraw more than the contract's allowance during the surrender period.

Each of those has its own article on this blog, and each carries the detail this page does not.

What it costs

Premiums depend on age, health classification, the amount of cover and the term length. Those inputs move independently, so no single figure describes the product — a quote against your own details is the only honest answer.

What does not affect the price is your neighbourhood. Rates are not set by whether you live in Winter Park, Lake Nona or downtown.

What a broker does that a captive agent cannot

This is the part worth understanding before you start, because it changes the outcome more than anything else on this page.

A captive agent represents one insurance company and can offer you that company's products. A broker is not tied to one, and can put the same application in front of several carriers.

That matters because carriers assess the same person differently. A health condition one company rates as standard, another may not. If your application is only ever seen by one carrier, you never find out that the answer elsewhere was different.

A broker also reads the parts that are easy to skip: exclusions, riders, and what the contract guarantees as opposed to what an illustration projects.

What to have ready

  • a valid photo ID — driver's licence, passport or state ID
  • your medical history: conditions, medications, recent treatment
  • lifestyle details the application asks about, such as occupation, hobbies and tobacco use
  • if you file with an ITIN, your ITIN assignment letter

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to come to an office? No. The process can be completed by phone or online.

Do you only serve Orlando? No. Synergy Insurance Group is licensed in all 50 states.

How long does an application take? It depends on the product and on the carrier, and on whether underwriting asks for anything further. Ask what the expected path looks like for your specific application rather than relying on a general figure.

Which policy should I choose? That depends on what you are covering and for how long, and it is a conversation to have against your own circumstances with someone licensed. The product articles on this blog set out what each one does and where its limits are.

Can I apply with an ITIN? Some carriers accept an ITIN in place of a Social Security Number. Which ones, and what else they ask for, varies — see the ITIN article for what the process involves.
